House & Home Calendar: February - Home Tech Checks

February is a great month for making HOME TECH CHECKS.

If the house has been busy with family and friends over half term, it’s possible that your home tech was used heavily and any tech glitches or gremlins were more obvious than usual.

Here are our recommended post-half-term Home Tech Checks for February:

  • Check for firmware updates for *all* devices in the house – (repeat twice a year / 6 monthly)

  • Shut all the programmes on your laptop, and carry out a full hard re-start  (repeat monthly)

  • Check you have an active subscription for Anti-virus software, renew as necessary for continuous protection, and make sure you’re scanning for viruses (repeat monthly)

  • Refresh and renew all remote control batteries (repeat twice a year)

  • Computer maintenance & clean ups, back ups / storage cleaned and updated (repeat annually)

  • Chargers and spare cables – clear out ‘that drawer’ and recycle anything you’re not using

  • Dispose of old / unused laptops and devices – seek advice about disposal – review annually

Did you know CiD has in-house Home Tech expertise on the team? We can offer our clients advice on all or any of these points.

Our real expertise comes into its own when we manage upgrades and installations of whole home internet, networking, audio visual, security and smart home control solutions for our clients.

Got a landline at home? If you do, here’s a reminder that the UK is moving from analogue to digital phone lines in 2025. That means all calls after that will be made over the internet.

Contact us or your landline provider with plenty of time in hand to plan for the switch off, and find out more about how this might affect you.
