Sun
For guaranteed sun in October, Tenerife doesn’t disappoint, with average daytime temperatures ranging 24°C - 28°C. Take in family-friendly activities such as Loro Parque, a world-class zoo setting the standard for species conservation, or Siam Park, one of the best water parks in the world. If you’re not a fan of big and busy resorts, The Royal Garden Villas offers 28 individually designed villas, each with a private heated pool, for privacy and tranquillity. The resort is tucked away in the Costa Adeje area, away from the more crowded tourist spots, still within easy reach of beautiful beaches and top attractions.
A Majestic Villa with private pool, terrace, kitchen and living room, sleeping 2 adults, 2 children from EUR 6941 for 7 nights. Move fast for October availability.
Fun
If yours are still full of energy at half term, Sani Resort, Halkidiki, Greece, an outstanding 5* resort, is known for extensive sports facilities and academies, multiple pools, dedicated children's clubs, spas and no less than 27 restaurants.
Featuring 5 distinct hotels – with Sani Beach the largest and most family-oriented, there are free stays for kids on an unspoiled stretch of beach. The resort also provides nanny services, and a ‘Babewatch’ team so parents can have a little time to themselves too.
Flight time from London 3 hours 15 mins. Family suites from approx. EUR500/night. Move fast for October availability.
Staycation
Here’s a stunner right on Chesil Beach at Burton Bradstock. And only 3.5 hours drive from London. Hive Beach House is right on the edge of the smooth-shingled Jurassic Coast, steps from the English Channel and practically next door to the hugely popular Hive Beach Cafe.
A wooden exterior and chic modern Scandi lines throughout, with a hot tub set into the decking, a day bed, and zinc-topped breakfast bar will make you swoon, all mod cons are included, not forgetting a KitchenAid coffee maker.
Even if the out of season weather doesn’t tempt you onto one of the boogie boards, all three bedrooms have spectacular views, to enjoy the outside from inside and under-floor heating will keep you cosy.
At night, the dim lights of fisherman blink from out at sea and you are lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves. This is a house that won't be here for the next generation, as the National Trust can't protect the building or the immediate area - stay before the sea claims it.
Sleeps 6 spaciously with one shared family bathroom. 1 week off-peak £9750. Next availability February half term 2025.
Off-grid luxury
If you love the idea of going off-grid but need your creature comforts, Coppet Hill in Bridport Dorset could fit the bill nicely.
Family owned and run by none other than former CiD PA Pippa Streatfeild, Coppet Hill is an award winning glamp / campsite surrounded by some of Dorset’s most spectacular hills. Part of the 600-acre family farm the site is a peaceful haven for walkers, campers and wildlife lovers.
To ensure quiet seclusion there are only 4 Landpods, the most luxurious being ‘Churchay Meadow’, a 6m Lotus Belle Stargazer, sleeping 4 with a king sized bed and two camp beds (suitable for kids under 10), in a private secluded meadow.
There’s a well equipped al fresco kitchen-diner, fire pit, and wood fired Nordic open air bathtub, a shower shed, linen and towels provided, and solar powered electricity supply.
3 hours drive from London. £150-170 per night, min 2 night stay. Next availability Easter 2025.
